Accrington striker Padraig Amond is not the only person at the club keeping a close eye on his goal tally this year.

Amond, who was this week nominated for the League Two Player of the Year gong at next month's Northwest Football Awards, has five strikes to his name this term and is already within sight of the eight he managed last time around.

However, he told Press Association Sport that some extra interest from assistant boss Leam Richardson and physio Les Parry is pushing him further.

"I'm pretty pleased with the start I've made this year," Amond told Press Association Sport. "I've got a few goals and had a couple of chances to maybe get a few more.

"I'd like to get as many goals as I can - who knows what that number is. The first target you set yourself is to get more than last year, anyone will tell you that.

"The assistant Leam and the physio Les have a little side-bet going on over how many goals I will get so they're keeping me fresh and want me to make sure one of them makes a bit of money out of it. Between the three of us there's a bit of banter going round."
