Beattie ready for welcome break

Accrington boss James Beattie is hoping a fortnight off will help his side bounce back from their 1-0 loss at Northampton.

A solitary first-half goal from Stuart Dallas earned the Cobblers all three points while condemning Stanley to their first defeat in nine outings.

The hosts could even afford a penalty miss from Izale McLeod on his debut, the on-loan MK Dons striker having his spot-kick saved by Marcus Bettinelli.

Beattie said: "All good things must come to an end and those were my last words to the players in the dressing room after the game.

"What we've got to do now is start another run. We started this game slowly and I don't really know why. The team has been unchanged throughout our run so maybe the two-week break will do us good, it will give us a chance to freshen up a little bit.

"There are a lot of lads who have put a big effort in recently, the biggest progression for me has been the mental one the team has made together.

"Not enough of the players were at it, we improved in the second half and I can't fault the lads at all for their effort, they've been great on the run we've been on."

Beattie also praised keeper Bettinelli for playing through the pain barrier and producing a penalty save to keep his side in the contest.

He added: "Marcus has been superb all season and he's been a massive plus for us. He's got a lot of strapping on his right hip so he dived to his left because he didn't want to land on his other side!"
