Flicker unhappy with Stanley

David Flitcroft has suggested Bury were dissuaded from signing striker Kal Naismith because Accrington made the Shakers' interest public knowledge.

Striker Naismith, 22, scored 10 goals in his first year at the Store First Stadium to help Stanley stay up and pique Flitcroft's interest.

A first five-figure bid was rejected by Accrington, whose manager James Beattie told the media that offer was way below his club's valuation.

Bury eventually signed Danny Rose and despite suggestions a deal could be struck before Monday's deadline - especially after Andy Procter moved in the opposite direction - Naismith has remained with Accrington.

He scored against his admirers on Saturday and, speaking after that contest, Flitcroft claimed that while he remained a fan of the player, Accrington's conduct had scared him off.

"It was when we were bidding for Rosey and we had two or three things in the pipeline there," Flitcroft revealed.

"I think the way Accrington have handled it through the press has put me off a little bit. We tried to go chairman to chairman and do it professionally and within half an hour it was on Sky Sports.

"We don't do business that way; it's something that when you're doing your business, confidentiality is confidentiality.

"To see it all come out as glaringly obvious was something that we've not been a part of it."
