Barcelona look set to turn down David Villa's request to leave the club after making it clear he wants to join Arsenal this month.
The Spain international returned from a broken leg this season but, despite scoring eight goals in 20 appearances, has found it tough to force his way into Tito Vilanova's first XI.
A reported fall out with star man Lionel Messi has down little to help his cause at the Nou Camp and recent rumours have suggested he is ready to move on in January.
The 31-year-old is thought to be interested in a move to Arsenal, who are desperate to link Villa up with compatriot Santi Cazorla.
The Gunners are keen to add more firepower to their ranks and Arsene Wenger is ready to splash out a fair chunk of the reported £35million he has to spend in the January window.
However, Barcelona are not keen to sell Villa in the middle of the season and the Gunners may have to turn their attention elsewhere or wait until the summer to bring in Spain's all-time leading scorer.
