Bayern ace gutted to land Gunners

Last Updated: Tue, 17 Dec 2013 13:21

Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng believes Arsenal are the "toughest opponents" his side could have drawn in the Champions League.

The current holders defeated the Gunners at the same stage of the competition last year on route to their European triumph.

Bayern saw off Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates last season but were beaten 2-0 in the second-leg in Germany, with the Bundesliga side progressing via the away goals rule.

Boateng expects a stern test when the two sides meet in the last 16 and feels Arsenal are the most difficult side Bayern could have been paired with for the first knock-out stage.

He said: "They're the toughest opponents we could have had. They'll be totally up for it after what happened last year. Both matches will be very intense."
