Carvalho bid fails

Last Updated: Tue, 02 Sep 2014 14:33

Arsenal are reported to have failed with a late move to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Carvalho throughout the summer and reports in Portugal claim they made a last-ditch attempt to sign him before yesterday's deadline.

Arsene Wenger was keen to add more strength and quality to his midfield after losing Mikel Arteta to injury but he will now have to go with what he has got until the window re-opens.

The Gunners boss may revisit the situation in January, but will face competition from Manchester United, who also showed an interest before the window closed.
