Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and could be ready to offer as much £40million.
Liverpool remain adamant that the Uruguayan is not for sale and have already turned down a £30million offer from the Gunners for his services, but they may now have to fight off Chelsea.
Suarez himself has been pushing for a move away from Anfield, claiming he cannot cope with the negative press he gets in England. The striker is hoping for a move to Real Madrid but as yet their new boss Carlo Ancelotti has shown no interest in the player.
Instead it is former Estadio Santiago Bernabeu boss Jose Mourinho, now at Chelsea, who is said to be keen to add Suarez, who is banned for the first six matches of next season, to his ranks having missed out on Edinson Cavani of Napoli.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will go back with another offer for Suarez but Arsene Wenger will be unable to compete with Chelsea if they offer £40million.
