Aston Villa are in the hunt to sign Arsenal central defender Philippe Senderos as a replacement for Martin Laursen.

Martin O'Neill is keen to bring in a new centre-half after Laursen was forced to retire through injury and he looks ready to turn his attentions to Senderos who is up for grabs at the Emirates Stadium.

The Swiss ace spent last season on loan at AC Milan but the Italian giants are not ready to pursue a permanent deal and the player is now back with the Gunners.

The defender's stay could be a short one though as reports claim Villa are ready to make a £5million swoop.

If a deal is struck we will send out mobile alerts on our new sms service.
