Duo battle for Toon ace

Arsenal and Liverpool have been alerted by reports suggesting Newcastle could cash in on Demba Ba during the January window.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew would prefer to keep hold of the striker who has bagged 10 of Newcastle's 16 league goals this season, but the clause in his contract allowing him to leave for £7million is a huge weight on the club's shoulders.

Ba has so far rejected terms on a new contract to replace the current one and now Pardew is looking for a replacement as he accepts Ba is likely to leave next month.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are desperate to add goals to their ranks and it is thought Ba would be happy to join either club if they can meet his £80,000 a week wage demands.
