Arsenal forward Benik Afobe has joined promotion chasing Reading on loan for the remainder of the season.

The England youth international is very highly-rated by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger but is not ready to battle for a first-team place just yet so the Frenchman has decided a loan deal would be a good idea.

The Royals play good football and Wenger believes it will be the ideal place for him to continue his football education as Brian McDermott's men continue to push for a return to the Premier League.

McDermott himself is delighted and believes the forward will have a key role to play between now and the end of the season.

"We're delighted to have him, he wanted to come here and that was important because he had other options," the Royals boss revealed.

"We know him very well, we have watched him from a very young age. He's played a lot of games for England right up to the under 19s and then out on loan last season as well.

"He's a good addition to the squad and will help us with eight games to go."
