Gunners back in for defender

Arsenal are being linked with Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa once again after he impressed on Tuesday evening.

The Gunners ran out 2-1 winners in France but were made to fight all the way and Yanga-Mbiwa impressed Arsene Wenger with a solid performance in central defence.

Wenger is reported to have failed with a bid to land the player during the summer but could go back in with another bid when the transfer window re-opens in the new year.

Arsenal already have Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny battle for two roles in central defence but Yanga-Mbiwa can play anywhere along the back and would be a valuable asset.

AC Milan are also keen on the France international and Arsenal would face a battle for his signature should Montpellier decide to cash in.
