Arsene Wenger is delighted that Jack Wilshere has signed a new long-term deal at Arsenal and claims his 'potential is huge'.

The 17-year-old made his first-team debut at the age of 16 last September and scored one goal in eight appearances in the 6-0 Carling Cup mauling of Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.

Wilshere will now be hoping to gain more chances to impress Wenger this coming season along with Aaron Ramsey, who pledged his long-term future to the Gunners on Wednesday.

On the news of Wilshere penning a new contract, Wenger told the club's official website: "It is such great news that Jack has signed a new long-term contract.

"Jack made great progress last season, playing at Under-18s, reserves and first-team level and we all witnessed what a great young talent he is.

"At just 17 years of age, the potential is huge for Jack and we are all delighted he has committed his long-term future to Arsenal."
