Arsenal are reported to be closing in on the signing of Romanian striker Ciprian Marica, who is available on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old left Schalke in the summer and is now able to move outside of the transfer window with Arsenal, AC Milan, Lazio and Shakhtar Donetsk all said to be keen.
Marica was on target when Romania defeated Hungary on Friday night and will again be leading the line when they take on Turkey in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.
The player's agent Ioan Becali has confirmed a host of clubs are showing an interest in his client but says the Gunners are in the box seat once the international fixtures are out of the way.
"He's close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week," he revealed.
West Ham are also being linked but the Gunners are favourites to do a deal as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his ranks after missing out on Chelsea's Demba Ba.
