Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be ready to slug it out with Spurs and Liverpool for Dutch ace Klass-Jan Huntelaaer.

The Frenchman has already ordered his worldwide network of scouts to find him a world-class striker in the January transfer window, as Olivier Giroud has not yet found his feet as Robin Van Persie's replacement.

Wenger, like Andre Villas-Boas and Brendan Rodgers, is in awe of the Dutch hitman's strike-rate - he has already netted six goals in eleven games for German outfit Schalke 04, after grabbing over 40 in 60-plus appearances last term.

Huntelaar, who has previously been linked with a £15million move to Chelsea, recently made it clear in statements that he hasn't yet decided on whether he will remain with the Bundesliga outfit.

Wenger though intends to steal a march on his rivals by having his scouts spy on the 29-year-old, as Holland travel to Romania for a World Cup qualifier.

Sources close to the striker insist the Dutch goal machine would welcome a move to the Premiership, as he feels he would have more chance of silverware. Despite his brilliant strike rate, Schalke already trailing Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by seven points.
