Arsene Wenger is keen to draft in a new midfielder and is targeting a move for Freiburg's teenage star Matthias Ginter.
Ginter is highly rated in his homeland and has already been capped at Germany Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, and has caught the eye of the Arsenal boss.
Freiburg's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be tracking the teenager, who is a product of the club's youth academy, but Wenger hopes the chance to play in the Premier League could swing the deal.
The Gunners also hope to have the edge in any transfer deal for the 19-year-old after they allowed Francis Coquelin to move to the Mage Solar Stadion on a season-long loan.
Ginter became Freiburg's youngest goalscorer in the Bundesliga when he scored on his debut two days after his 18th birthday against FC Augsburg in January 2012.
