Gunners handed Khedira boost

Arsenal's chances of landing Sami Khedira have been boosted by the news Bayern Munich have pulled out of the running.

The World Cup winner and Real Madrid midfielder is being widely tipped to leave the Bernabeu this summer having fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti's side.

The likes of Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Xabi Alonso and Toni Kroos all seem to be ahead of the German in the pecking order, meaning a move away looks likely.

Arsenal had been favourites to land the midfielder for around £27million, only for reports to surface suggesting that Bayern wanted him to run his contract down and join them for free in 12 months.

Despite the speculation, chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has denied these rumours, insisting that the Bundesliga champions are not looking to sign the German.

Khedira is now expected to join Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger prepares a fresh bid for the midfielder.
