Arsene Wenger's remarks that Arsenal are a 'selling club' will be a concern for Gunners fans as they try to close the gap at the top.
Arsenal finished four points behind champions Manchester United last season, but the difference was larger than the points margin suggests and many in the game feel Wenger needs to add some experience to his squad this summer.
With the Gunners still waiting to seal a deal for French international Samir Nasri, the only addition to date is that of Cardiff youngster Aaron Ramsey.
Now Wenger has admitted that the club's 'strategy' is to 'sell every year and to buy less expensive players', as the Gunners look to pay off the money owed on their new Emirates Stadium.
Those comments will come as a major concern for Arsenal followers having already seen Mathieu Flamini and Jens Lehmann depart this summer, while Alexander Hleb and Emmanuel Adebayor are also at the centre of exit talk.
With a change of manager at Stamford Bridge, the threat of Ronaldo leaving United and with Liverpool struggling to add major players to their squad - Gunners' fans would have been thinking this could have been a chance to reassert themselves in the title battle.
