Wales have been dealt a late blow ahead of their friendly against Austria after Aaron Ramsey was ruled out of the contest.

The Arsenal midfielder, 22, has returned to the north London club for treatment on a calf problem.

Wales manager Chris Coleman had looked set to field the key quartet of former national team captain Ramsey, Gareth Bale, Craig Bellamy and Joe Allen against the Austrians, but his plans have been dashed.

A Football Association of Wales statement read: "Aaron Ramsey has this afternoon withdrawn from the Wales squad to face Austria at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

"Aaron has a problem with his calf and has returned to his club Arsenal for treatment."
