Arsenal are thought to have shelved plans to sign Swansea's Ashley Williams and are instead pursuing Dinamo Zagreb's Tin Jedvaj.
The Gunners have turned their attention to highly-rated teenager Jedvaj after being quoted £10million by the Swans for their club captain Williams.
The 17-year-old has already trained with the Croatian national team and is on the radar of a number of European clubs, with Roma having had a £5million bid rejected earlier this year.
Dinamo Zagreb are hopeful of securing £8.5million for Jedvaj but Arsenal are confident an offer of around £6million might persuade them to part with the defender.
The Gunners are keen to increase their options at centre-half after releasing Sebastian Squillaci, while Johan Djourou also looks likely to leave having attracted interest from German duo Hannover and Hamburg.
