Arsenal are reported to be lining up a £12million swoop for Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons, who has impressed Gunners scouts.

Arsene Wenger is on the look out for a midfielder to replace Alex Song, who left for Barcelona last summer, and according to reports the highly-rated Gonalons is on his wanted list.

Wenger has received favourable scouting reports on the 23-year-old, who has been in fine form for Lyon this season, and a bid could be on the cards at the end of the season.

Gonalons has also broken into the France national side, winning six caps, and has admitted that the prospect of playing in England or Germany does appeal to him.

"I like the English and the German leagues," he revealed when quizzed about his future. "When I see the pitch and that type of game, I feel it's a dream."

If reports are to be believed Wenger could have as much as £70million to spend on new players in the summer and a spending spree looks to be on the cards.
