Arsenal will make an improved offer of £35million for Luis Suarez but face a battle with Real Madrid for his services.
The Gunners have already failed with one bid of £30million for the Liverpool striker but Arsene Wenger will not be detered and is expected to make an improved offer this week.
Wenger is desperate to land the Uruguayan star and reports now claim he has put his attempts to land Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain on hold until he knows whether or not he has a chance of landing Suarez.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is also a target but Suarez is the one Wenger wants and he is hoping that Liverpool will accept £35million for him.
Real could also offer the player the chance to quit English football altogether and it looks as though a bidding war will be on the cards over the next few weeks.
