Gunners told to forget Batshuayi raid

Last Updated: Sat, 07 Dec 2013 07:47

Standard Liege have told Arsenal to forget about making a bid for Belgian starlet Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has been linked with a swoop for the 20-year-old, who has already bagged 14 goals in all competitions for Liege this season and five in 11 for the Belgium Under-21s.

However, while Wenger and several of Europe's other top club sides have been sending scouts to Belgium to watch Batshuayi on a regular basis, it appears Liege are in no mood to entertain losing one of their key men before the end of the season.

Liege president Roland Duchtelet told Het Laatste Nieuws: "What's new is Arsenal's interest in Michy.

"They are one of the many clubs who follow our striker. But we do not intend to let Michy go this season."

Despite Duchtelet's stance it is being suggested that Wenger will happily wait until the end of the season and then launch a serious bid to take Batshuayi to the Emirates Stadium next summer.
