Pardew cool on Cabaye future

Last Updated: Fri, 20 Dec 2013 05:59

Alan Pardew says he is confident Newcastle will be able to keep hold of star midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the January window.

Cabaye has been a revelation again for the Magpies this season and there is sure to be plenty of interest in the Frenchman when the window re-opens next month.

Arsenal failed with a £15million bid in the summer and there is a good chance Arsene Wenger could make another move, while Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain are also keen.

Cabaye was disappointed to see a move to the Gunners fall through but he has since got back to his best and Pardew believes the club are in a strong enough position financially to fight off any bids.

"I am pretty confident that my owner and the club are in a great financial position," Pardew said of the situation. "I would be a lot more nervous if we weren't.

"He's a great player, there are always going to be big clubs sniffing around him. We are fortunate to have him, we are enjoying him while he is here and long may that continue."
