Arsene Wenger says Andre Santos could still have a future with Arsenal, despite being shipped out on loan to Gremio.

The defender has joined the Brazilian side on loan for the rest of the season after slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium and that kicked off suggestions his time was up.

However, Santos has said he intends to return to Arsenal at the end of the loan and fight for his place and now Wenger has confirmed the player could still force his way into his future plans.

"He moved because he'd lost a bit of confidence and he needs to play," Wenger revealed. "He's a guy who is a very good football player, but he didn't get enough games.

"He's more at ease in my opinion on the left of midfield, where there's a lot of competition. He will be back at the end of July, and of course he can have a future at Arsenal.

"That depends as well on the ins and outs during the summer."
