Spain ace reveals Gunners snub

ArsenalSpanish international Marcos Senna says he turned down an offer from Arsenal before signing a new deal with Villarreal.

The Gunners were hoping to land the 32-year-old as a replacement for Mathieu Flamini, who signed from AC Milan, but the player has opted to stay in La Liga.

Senna impressed during Euro 2008 and was one of the stars of the show as Spain went on to win the tournament. The midfielder would have been an ideal replacement for Flamini but Arsene Wenger will now have to look elsewhere.

"It is true that I have had offers from Arsenal, Juventus and Fenerbahce following the Euros, but I just want to stay at Villarreal where I am happiest," Senna revealed.

"I hope this season we can fight for the Spanish title and I think I can contribute to a team that is getting better and better. Last season with Villarreal was incredible and then to win the European Championships was just the icing on the cake."
