Striker reveals Gunners snub

Lille winger Salomon Kalou has revealed he turned down the chance to join Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window.

Kalou, who left Chelsea in 2012, has been linked with a move back to England with Arsenal and Liverpool among the clubs to have shown an interest.

The 28-year-old, who will be hoping to star in the World Cup with Ivory Coast this summer, has revealed he almost joined the Gunners in the January window, but ultimately decided to stay in Ligue 1.

He told L'Equipe: "A loan deal could have been done at the last minute.

"However, I want to finish third [in Ligue 1], prepare for the World Cup and go to the Stade de France to compete in the Coupe de France final."
