Arsenal's hopes of landing Marouane Chamakh are fading after Bordeaux revealed they are hoping he will sign a new deal.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the highly-rated Moroccan ace but so far Arsene Wenger has not launched an official bid for the forward.

Bordeaux are keen to keep hold and their president Jean-Louis Triaud says he is hopeful a new deal can be sorted out.

"I have not spoken with any player about a move," he told skysports. "Players need to respect their contracts. We want Marouane to sign a new contract with us, he knows that. We want to build a great team here, not sell our best players.

"Chamakh has not received any offer or enquiry by a big or small Premier League club. The only enquiry has come from a Swiss club."
