Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are a selling club and need to cash in on star players to pay for the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners boss is working hard to try and keep Emmanuel Adebayor and Alex Hleb at the club this summer after already losing Mathieu Flamini, but admits the situation is out of his hands.

Arsenal have a financial plan in place to clear an annual surplus of £24million and Wenger admits that it will have an impact on what he can do in the transfer market.

"The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players," he told the News of the World. "We manage at Arsenal to maintain all our football ambitions - national and European - while having to free up - for 17 more years - an annual surplus of £24million to pay for our stadium.

"The club's strategy is to favour the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game."
