Arsene Wenger is confident Emmanuel Adebayor will stay at Arsenal but will move for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh if he does leave.

The Arsenal chief is aware that Italian giants AC Milan are interested in taking Togo international, Adebayor, to the San Siro this summer. And, while Wenger does not want to lose such an influential player, he recognises that the 25-year-old might want to move on given that the Gunners have failed to win any silverware since the 2005 FA Cup.

However Wenger feels Adebayor will stay on, but he does have alternative plans at the ready should he jump ship.

"If he does not want to stay, he will leave but I think that he will be still at Arsenal this season," the Frenchman told RMC.

On reported interest in Morocco international, Chamakh, Wenger added: "Yes, but only in the event of a departure."

Meanwhile Wenger has admitted that he was looking at a possible swoop for Lyon's Karim Benzema, who is set to join Real Madrid for £30million.

He said: "There is one who interested me but he (Karim Benzema) left for Madrid.

"I did not make of approach because I would never have thought that Lyon would sell this year."
