Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to join the race to land Rennes defensive midfielder Stephane M'Bia, according to reports.

Wenger is ready to rival Premier League rivals Everton in the battle to sign up Cameroon international, who has been on David Moyes' wanted list all summer.

M'Bia has said that he wants to stay in France and play in Ligue 1 for this season but might change his mind now that Wenger is keen.

The 22-year-old had his skills honed at the same Kadji Sports Academy in his native Cameroon as Samuel Eto'o.

Wenger has come under fire for not opening his cheque book before the transfer window closed earlier in the week but he is ready to sign up a number of players who he believes will strengthen his squad once the window opens again.
