Arsene Wenger says now is not the time to discuss Robin van Persie's future, but the striker is the best player in the Premier League.

The Dutchman has been at the centre of speculation over his future for several months, with the likes of Real Madrid being linked with a summer move for the forward.

Arsenal fans have seen the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy leave the club in the last couple of seasons and are understandably concerned that their latest prized asset could follow that trio out of the exit door.

But the Gunners' boss is refusing to be drawn on van Persie's future and insists there is no hurry to sort out the player's contract situation.

Wenger said: "Van Persie's not at the end of his contract despite what people might think. He has one year to go and I don't think it's the best subject before this weekend's game (against Manchester City)."

Meanwhile, Wenger has put forward the Dutchman's case for taking the Player of the Year award saying the league's top scorer deserves the accolade.
