Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi admits he reports back to Arsene Wenger every day from the African Cup of Nations.
Grimandi has scouted a number of Wenger's purchases from France in the past few seasons, with mixed results, but has been deployed at the tournament in South Africa since the middle of January.
Speaking to Le10's magazine this week, he said: "I take notes on each match and I give daily update by telephone to Arsene on games that I've seen. I was a player at Arsenal and Monaco, there is a real relationship of trust and complicity between us."
Lorient striker Alain Traore is understood to be among the players that the Gunners have been tracking, although the Burkina Faso forward has picked up an injury and will miss his side's quarter-final clash with Togo on Sunday.
"Alain, we've been following from young," added Grimandi.
"His career, we know it by heart. This is a quality boy who has been bothered by injuries in recent years. What will be interesting is to see how he is able to perform over a duration."
