Man City are switching their attention to Real Madrid's Julio Baptista after running out of patience with Inter Milan's Adriano.
Sven Goran Eriksson's hunt for a top striker has seen City linked with a succession of out of favour frontmen from Europe's top clubs, but Adriano wants to stay in Italy.
The Brazilian has been sidelined at Inter this season and was recently forced to deny allegations of heavy drinking.
Eriksson could already have switched his sights to Baptista, who has played less than 90 La Liga minutes in total at Real Madrid this term, having returned from a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Rolando Bianchi's agent claims the Italian striker is not angling for a move back home and is willing to knuckle down and earn another first-team chance.
Tulio Tinti said: "Bianchi is happy where he is - there is no truth in what they write in the newspapers about Napoli or any other team.
"Rolando Bianchi wants to stay in Manchester for much longer and he intends to grow with the club."
