Russia captain Andrei Arshavin has opened the door for a move to Arsenal by declaring he would like to move to England.

The 26-year-old is thought to have caught the eye of Arsene Wenger while playing for his country and the Frenchman has had scouts watching the Zenit St Petersburg star on a regular basis.

The Gunners would face a battle to land the player as Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton and host of clubs throughout Europe have all shown an interest in the talented midfielder.

Arshavin is now ready to try his luck in the Premiership and when quizzed about a possible move, he simply replied: "Of course I want to play in England."

The player's agent Pavel Andreev added: "Arshavin is well known in Europe by many great European clubs. We have actually transferred power of attorney so that we can let an English agency do the serious negotiations.

"They will communicate the interest with any clubs for Andrei and once we have information we will report it."
