Spanish number two David Ferrer has been ruled out of his country's Davis Cup clash with Peru this week due to a leg injury.

It is the latest blow to hit the Spanish camp, as world number two Rafael Nadal and former French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero opted to miss the tie.

With the Spanish federation confirming that Ferrer must rest for 'five to six days' because of his strain, world number 37 Feliciano Lopez has been handed a call up into the team.

Therefore captain Emilio Sanchez's Spanish side will be made up of Tommy Robredo, Fernando Verdasco, Nicolas Almagro and Lopez for the tie, which gets underway on Friday.

Peru will be led by world number 76 Luis Horna, in what is their first-ever match in the World Group - their three other players are all ranked outside of the top 250.
