Wilson Palacios and Michael Brown will miss the trip to Portsmouth this weekend, while Chris Kirkland is rated doubtful.

Palacios was sent-off for two bookable offences in the defeat at Blackburn and will now serve a one-match ban, while Brown has reached ten cautions for the season and will miss the trip to Fratton Park and the home clash with Birmingham on April 5.

It all appears to be bad news on the injury front for Steve Bruce at the moment, who could also be without his first choice goalkeeper as well as his central midfield pair the for the Pompey clash.

Chris Kirkland suffered a back injury in the 3-1 defeat at Ewood Park and although he played out the remainder of the game, the former Liverpool man is an early doubt for the trip to the south coast.

Bruce revealed: "Kirky was moving very gingerly because of his back in the dressing room afterwards."

Wigan will also be without left-back Erik Edman, with the Swedish international set to miss six months after rupturing knee ligaments against Blackburn.
