Roy Hodgson refuses to concede Fulham will be relegated and insists a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.
Saturday's 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Newcastle extended Fulham's run to 32 consecutive away league games without victory and their form away from Craven Cottage looks like costing them a place in the top flight.
But Hodgson says his side will continue to battle away and despite being four points away from safety, the manager feels a turn around is still possible with seven matches remaining.
Hodgson said: "We were two points behind Bolton and we're now three points. Birmingham, who were four points ahead of us at the start of the day, are still four points ahead.
"We've got seven games to play. But it was a significant move for Sunderland with their excellent win at Aston Villa, so we've lost touch with them.
"But having said that, seven matches, a lot of things can happen."
He added: "We've got to keep believing that our football can get us out of this situation and we've got to hope that the things that didn't go right for us, we can put right."
