Jason Roberts is hopeful of retaining his place in the Blackburn side this season and secure a long-term future at Ewood Park.

The 30-year-old striker looked to be on his way out of the club in the January transfer window when he handed in a request to leave after becoming disillusioned with life on the substitutes' bench. However boss Mark Hughes turned down his bid to leave and Roberts has come to the fore in recent weeks, striking up a good partnership with top scorer Roque Santa Cruz, while keeping Benni McCarthy on the sidelines.

Roberts grabbed another vital goal in Saturday's 3-1 win against his former club Wigan and is now aiming to stay in the forward line until the summer. However he is still not certain if he will be at the Lancashire club beyond the end of this season.

The Grenada international told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We've got some really good strikers here so you've got to be on top of your game all the time.

"But if you look at my record since I've been here, when I have played, and I've played consistently, I have scored goals, and I have caused the opposition problems, so hopefully there is more of that to come.

"I still feel there is a lot more to come from me at this football club.

"If you play games then you improve and get your timing back, and I'm feeling better with every game, and every minute, I play.

"Hopefully a few more opportunities will come my way between now and the end of the season."

He added: "As for where my future lies, I don't know. To a certain extent that situation is out of my hands."
