Chairman Niall Quinn insists the fantastic vocal support from Sunderland's fans can play a key part in the club's fight for survival.

The Black Cats are now four points clear of the Premier League's relegation places following Saturday's first away win of the campaign - 1-0 at Aston Villa. And they can go a long way to achieving safety with a victory against West Ham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Quinn has called on the supporters to come out in force as they have done throughout the season and help cheer the players on to success.

"We all got a boost at Villa and every point is vital now, we need the fans more than ever," he told the club's official website.

"We've got a decent home record and the fans have played a huge part.

"It's great to see them turning out in such big numbers and it's sure to give the team a boost against West Ham."
