Newcastle look likely to be without Brazilian defender Claudio Cacapa for the remainder of the campaign through injury.
The 31-year-old has picked up a groin problem which boss Kevin Keegan says will keep him out for the next five weeks and there are now question marks over whether he will play for the club again.
The South American has been in and out of the side all season and with the club actively seeking a new centre-half in the summer, the chances of him playing again look to be slim.
"We have lost Claudio Cacapa for about five weeks," Keegan told icNewcastle.
"He pulled his groin in training on Friday and that's why Lamine Diatta was in the squad against Fulham on Saturday."
