Newcastle striker Michael Owen has outlined his intention to force his way into England coach Fabio Capello's starting plans.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star came on at half-time during the 1-0 friendly defeat to France in Paris on Wednesday night but barely had a shot on goal.
Owen now hopes to show Italian boss Capello what he can do in the forthcoming games against the USA and Trinidad & Tobago.
"Everyone likes to impress the manager and I'm no different," said the Magpies hitman. "The same applies to starting the games. I think any player would prefer to start rather than come on as sub and I've always been like that.
"We have got a spate of friendlies coming up, which is disappointing in a way because we would rather be getting ready for Euro 2008.
"But this means there is plenty of time to experiment and hopefully I will get the chance to impress the manager and try to make sure I'm in the starting line-up for some of those games."
Owen was an unused substitute in Capello's first game which was a 2-1 win over Switzerland at Wembley.
