Lawrence Dallaglio has been banned for one week by club side Wasps after being cited for an alleged punch on Leicester's Julian White.

The alleged incident reportedly took place towards the end of Wasps 34-24 EDF Energy Cup defeat to the Tigers on Saturday and the former England captain will face an RFU disciplinary hearing next Tuesday.

If found guilty by the RFU panel then the back-row star could face eight weeks out of the game, which would effectively mean that his career is over, as the 2003 World Cup winner is set to retire from all rugby at the end of the current season.

Dallaglio has never before been cited in an 18-year career but he accepted that he operated outside of the laws of the game at the weekend.

"I accept the sanction of a week's suspension from playing for my club," he said. "I acknowledge that my actions infringed the rules, although I wish to stress that they were unintentional and without any malice.

"I have extended my apologies to Julian White. I hope that I can now draw a line under this incident and enjoy playing out the rest of my final season."
