Roma claim Francesco Totti is a out of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Man Utd - who have five injury doubts of their own.
The Italian striker was seen to be feeling a thigh injury several times during their 1-1 draw with Cagliari in Serie A yesterday, but still managed to complete the 90 minutes.
Sir Alex Ferguson will be wary of misinformation coming out of the Italian camp ahead of the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico this week.
"Francesco Totti complained of pain in his left thigh. He underwent tests which highlighted a muscle injury," said a statement on the club's website.
"He must rest while the situation is monitored in the next few days."
Ferguson, meanwhile, has his own injury concerns with Edwin van der Sar, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra and Rio ferdinand all doubtful after Saturday's 4-0 win over Aston Villa.
Van der Sar did not play due to a recurrence of a niggling groin problem, while Evra picked up a knee knock during the win.
Ferguson said: "Carrick, Rio and Patrice Evra all had injuries and then Giggs got injured towards the end. With the rain continually coming down, the pitch was starting to prove very heavy and that can be a problem with hamstrings. Hopefully they'll be all right (for Rome)."
