Darren Clarke has given himself a chance of winning his first title of 2008 as he leads the BMW Asian Open by one shot after 54 holes.

The Northern Ireland star is looking to rebuild his career after a slump in form and leads the field by one shot in the Far East after a five-under par 67 on day three of the Shanghai tournament.

The 39-year-old began his third round one shot behind Robert-Jan Derksen but now leads the Dutchman by one shot on -9 with 18 holes to play at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club.

The European Ryder Cup star carded five birdies during his third round and was content with his performance as he prepares for one last round and a first tournament win in five years.

"I played really well. I'm very pleased with the way I hit the ball," he said. "I had a couple of steady rounds and then to go out and shoot a really good one and put myself in contention is great.

"I putted very, very well for the last seven holes. All in all I played nice steady golf and took all the opportunities I had."

England's Robert Dinwiddie, a European Tour rookie, is just two shots behind Clarke after making eight birdies in a round of 66.
