Wigan boss Steve Bruce has competition from Bolton for the signature of Birmingham midfielder Fabrice Muamba.
The Latics boss took Muamba to St Andrews on loan from Arsenal before completing a permanent deal with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger at the start of the season.
Bruce was reported to be planning a swoop for the England Under-21 star this summer, but now faces competition from Gary Megson.
The Bolton boss outbid a number of his rivals, including Birmingham, for the services of defender Gary Cahill in January and hopes to snatch Muamba from under Bruce's nose too.
Birmingham do not want to sell, but if they are relegated boss Alex McLeish will have to make some tough choices on his stars.
