Roy Hodgson is to hold talks with out-of-favour trio Chris Baird, Philippe Christanval and Alexei Smertin over their Fulham futures.

Hodgson will not stand in their way if they want to move as he has earmarked the three as players to go whatever happens between now and the end of the season.

The Fulham manager has plans to strengthen all areas of his squad if the Cottagers beat the drop and he wants to cast out some of the 'dead wood', currently out of the first-team picture, signed by his predecessors.

But if Hodgson is unable to keep Fulham up he may be left with the task of cutting down the wage bill for the new campaign, which could see the players allowed to leave if they can fix themselves up.

Baird, 26, cost £3million from Southampton when signed by his ex-Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez in the summer.

Christanval has made only one substitute appearance all season after a succession of injury problems while Smertin has seen his chances limited by the strong performances of Simon Davies and Danny Murphy recently.
