Ali Carter made sure his maximum break was not in vain and beat Peter Ebdon 13-9 to book his place in the semi-finals at The Crucible.
The 28-year-old recorded his historic 147 on Tuesday, just 24 hours after Ronnie O'Sullivan's to make it the first time two have been scored in the same tournament, and led the former world champion 9-7 overnight.
Although Ebdon took the opening frame to cut the deficit to just one, Carter then won four of the next five frames to make it through to the last four at the World Championships for the first time in his career.
The Essex star revealed he had very little sleep after his heroics yesterday, but said: "I don't need any, I'm pumped up on adrenalin.
"I watched the break again on TV last night, I was keen to see the celebration because I was quite pleased to say the least.
"It was always going to be a tough battle today after achieving that yesterday. The main objective was to win the match, you don't want to make a maximum and lose because that would take the shine off it."
Ebdon had no complaints about his defeat and said: "The better man won on the day. There were three or four occasions when I should have cleared up to win frames but all credit to Ali, he put me under a lot of pressure and was a worthy winner."
