Tottenham are ready to battle it out with Everton for the services of German international centre-half Alexander Madlung.
Juande Ramos has made finding a new central defender one of his top priorities this summer as doubts continue to surround the fitness of Ledley King and it looks as though Madlung has been added to his list of targets.
According to reports in Germany both Spurs and Everton have had the player watched of late and they have been joined by a third, as yet unnamed, Premiership club.
The 25-year-old currently plays for Wolfsburg but he has just a year remaining on his current contract and is apparently unlikely to be offered a new deal by their coach Felix Magath.
Madlung has a clause in his current contract which allows him to leave for a knockdown fee of £2.3m and that makes him a very attractive proposition for all interested parties.
