Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Football Writers' Player of the Year ahead of Fernando Torres and David James.
Portugal international Ronaldo has won the award for a second successive year with FWA chairman Paul Hetherington admitting a hat-trick of victories is on the cards for the 23-year-old.
"To score 38 goals in a season - so far - is an astonishing feat for a winger," said Hetherington. "He did not exactly get 100 per cent of the vote, but from the moment voting started he moved to the front and stayed there."
He added: "Given his age, he has the potential and ability to dominate this award for years in an unprecedented way."
Ronaldo has already retained the PFA Player of the Year award for which Torres and James were also nominated along with Steven Gerrard, Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor.
