Arsene Wenger has admitted his surprise at Keith Edelman's decision to quit as Arsenal's managing director.
Edelman is leaving his role at the Emirates Stadium claiming he is seeking a 'fresh challenge' but speculation has immediately started suggesting the Gunners could be the subject of a takeover.
Wenger says he is not sure why Edelman is moving on but says his decision has to be respected and has wished him well for the future.
"We didn't expect that and I don't know why (he is leaving)," Wenger revealed. "Does he go somewhere else or has he chosen a different direction? You have to respect that.
"He has done well in a very difficult period and everybody is conscious of that."
